Beats

Rag Field Beat

beat 1

This is the beat where the River Exe enters Tiverton.  Parking is possible along the residential parking on The Waldrons, the road that runs parrallel to the A396, Exeter Road.  Entry to the beat is possible through the main field gate or via the path of the concrete ramp that goes over the wall where the riverside path starts, Rotary Way.  Fishing from the bank is possible in only a couple of places, otherwise wading is recommended.  There are deep pools so a wading stick is always recommended.  Wild Brown trout and often Grayling reside in this stretch.  Refer to the TFFA Beat Map PDF for which bank to fish from.  Click Here to see the start of this beat on google maps.

College Beat

beat 4

Emerging from Tiverton and starting at Tiverton Castle, this beat really starts at the field adjacent to Morrisons Supermarket.  Going upstream you will pass Tiverton College and go underneath the A361 to farmland above Tiverton.  This stretch is ownded by TFFA so Grayling fishing is available here when in season.  Refer to the TFFA Beat Map PDF for which bank to fish from.  Click Here to see the start of this beat on google maps.

Bickleigh Beat

beat 2

This is a stunning beat just above Bickleigh, very little can be fished from the bank due to the wild wooded banks.  There are many deep holes and the start of the beat has trecherous, jagged bedrock which can easily catch out an angler.  Moving up the beat, the river becomes a little more friendly and there are some beautiful runs.  Wild Brown trout can be found here.  Refer to the TFFA Beat Map PDF for which bank to fish from.  Click Here to see the start of this beat on google maps.

Washfield Weir

beat 3

Just upstream of Tiverton is this Washfield Weir Stretch.  Running slightly slower than the downstream stretches due to being a wider river, there are again deep sections and the wild weir to navigate and fish.  Refer to the TFFA Beat Map PDF for which bank to fish from.  Click Here to see the start of this beat on google maps.
